If you’re a TV and movie fanatic like me, touring a studio lot is one of the best experiences, because it’s a chance to immerse yourself into the world of production and see what it really takes to create some of those shows and films that you love and watch over and over again.

While in Los Angeles, Jen and I went up to Burbank to check out the Warner Brothers Studios in Hollywood, a massive 110-acre lot filled with sound stages, exterior lots, production offices, prop houses, post-production suites, and more for a tour to see how some of our favourite shows and movies were made. The regular studio tour is 2 hours long, but we splurged on the 5+ hour VIP experience that gave us some added bonuses, and was totally worth the additional cost.

Some of the shows regularly filming at WB Studios right now are Pretty Little LiarsConanEllen, and The Big Bang Theory. The lot also used to be the home of Friends and Gilmore Girls. I was especially excited to see all of the exterior sets of PLL and maybe even catch a glimpse of Conan (or Jordan Schlansky!) on the lot.

The VIP tour runs once a day and is capped to ensure that the experience is intimate and gives everyone a chance to ask their questions. Our tour guide, Thom, was incredibly knowledgeable and super passionate about his job, which made our tour even more enjoyable. A completely unsuspecting bonus was that we also got to have lunch with Cass Warner – the granddaughter of one of the founding Warner Brothers!

Photos were by and large welcome on the lot (except for the active sound stages and a couple of rooms here and there), and I’m so excited to share a peek into the great experience we had. And if you’re a PLL or Friends fan, you can only imagine how excited I was when you see what I got to see.

As a mega breakfast food lover and someone who doesn’t particularly enjoy waking up early, brunch is totally my dig. It’s exponentially increased in popularity over the years, and why wouldn’t it? It’s the perfect excuse to start drinking at 10am (hello, bottomless mimosas) and there are endless delicious combinations to serve eggs, fatty salty protein, and sugary starch.

In LA, there is a wide selection of brunch options, ranging from upscale chic to quick & easy diner-style. Here are the ones Jen and I tried during our trip this spring.

Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel | 7000 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA | ★★★★ | $$$

When Jen and I went to Los Angeles in April, we were going to treat it as an indulgent girls trip, which meant no holding back when it came to spending. (Don’t worry, Dad. We held back a little.) This was especially true when it came to the hotels we chose.

I’d heard a lot about the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel for years. It’s rich with history, from its location of residency for many celebrities, to its Spanish Colonial Revival style architecture, and its alleged hauntings. It’s also conveniently located at Hollywood Boulevard, just steps from the TCL Chinese Theater, the Dolby Theater, and a host of restaurants and bars. Anything else was just a short Uber ride away. I’d always wanted a chance to stay there and experience it, and this was the perfect occasion for it.

I love using Trivago to find hotels – its search parameters help to narrow down your options based on location, price, and rating, and then figures out which booking site has the best deal for that hotel. As such, we got a great deal for 4 nights via Hotels.com and we splurged for the Deluxe King Room. We’re so happy that we did.

At the beginning of April this year, I went to sunny Los Angeles with Jen for that sweet taste of Hollywood magic and a dose of Santa Monica beach & boardwalk fun. I was only 12 the last time I’d been to California, and couldn’t remember much. All I really recalled was that the weather was always warm and my “I never want to experience winter again” soul would be satisfied once I touched down in LA.

I really enjoy packing for trips, but since I was travelling to the land of the rich and famous, choosing outfits became an exercise that required me to stop and think about how I could inject that La-La Land sense of fashion into my clothes each day. Looking less than a fabulous and respected B-Lister would simply be unacceptable. (Yes, B-List, because I don’t ask for much in this world.)

What I quickly realized by watching the weather forecast as the trip approached was that, while the daytime might be hot and magnificent, it could get quite cool some days and evenings, too. There would also be lots of walking and some nice dinners to attend. I needed a good combination of outfits that would get me through each day & night – layers would come in handy, as would a few different shoe selections.
