2015 Gift Guide: Stylist Edition

This week, I’m releasing a collection of gift guides I’ve curated in the process of gathering together my own Christmas wish list, focused on those travellers, bookworms, and fashionistas in your life.

If you’re looking for a special gift for that stylist in your life who’s obsessed with accessories and picking out the best outfit for each day, here are some ideas ranging from $10 to $200 that may inspire you this holiday season.

Daily essential – The purse that you choose to carry around with you every day is important, not only because it should complement your outfit, but because it should be able to hold everything you’ll need within a day and not be a hassle to you. I typically stray away from oversized purses (I’ll just hold my book in my hands) and use a medium-sized one, but my favourite is a trendy crossbody that may look small but can actually fit a lot economically.

Kate Spade’s Cobble Hill Mini Carson ($198.00 USD) is a great option for that. I use this bad boy whenever I can get away with it (which actually can be most days, if I put my mind to it). It won’t hold a conventional wallet, but you can keep your money together easily in a nice card case and slip it into the interior zipped pocket. The exterior flap pocket can actually hold a lot too, and it’s where I safely tuck away my car key or passport while travelling.

Feeling like they’ll want something a bit bigger? My other Kate Spade obsession is the Cedar Street Maise ($298.00 USD), one of their best loved bags. When I’m not using my Mini Carson, all of my love goes to this bag. It comes in several colours and can even be monogrammed. It’s also my travelling essential because it can fit my mirrorless camera.

Paparazzi disguise – One of the key style accessories that can amp your outfit to 100 is a good pair of sunglasses. With so many colours, shapes, and sizes in a multitude of price ranges in existence, there are several ways to wear them with any kind of outfit.

If your stylist friend is prone to losing sunglasses often, perhaps you’re better off gifting them a pair or two from Ardene, like these Futuristic Black Metal ones ($9.50 CAD) or the ever-adorable Pink Heart sunnies ($9.50 CAD). These are easy to switch in and out with a variety of outfits.

But if the gift you’re looking for is both trendy and timeless, I’m obsessed with Ray-Ban’s Clubmaster line. Pick up the Classic ($190.00 CAD) on my wishlist or even customize your own pair and choose the frame, lens, and metal detail colour. You can even add an engraving.

Stay warm, Ponyboy – The harsh reality of living in Canada is that you’re battling the cold for more months in the year than you can count. Every year, I am in denial of the chilly weather and continue to sport dresses and sleeveless tops. But the only way I can get away with it is with the help of some large blanket scarves that are warm and cozy.

Keep them warm with the Ivory Plaid Blanket Scarf ($39.99 CAD) from Express. It’s great to wear around the office or on the weekend while running errands, and it’s easy to tuck away when you’ve got one too many layers on.

Arriving in style or fashionably late – For years, I’ve never understood the purpose of wearing a watch. I check my time like every other millennial out there – on the homescreen of my iPhone. But with the insurgence of beautiful minimal watch designs, I’m starting to get it.

Kate Spade’s 5 O’Clock Metro ($210.00 CAD) has played a big part in this style awakening. Maybe it’s the classy trim in gold or rose gold, or the graceful leather strap available in easily complementary colours. It might even be the quirky but elegant design of the watch’s face. All I know is that this is my new obsession and I must have one.

Better yet, if you’re in the UK and you can get a hold of one of Olivia Burton’s masterpieces, like the Wonderland Black and Gold (£70.00 GBP), you’ll have my eternal jealousy.

I’ll cover you – Never underestimate what a good hat can do for your outfit. Floppy hats and wide-brimmed fedoras are great accessories year-round. They’ll keep the sun out of your eyes or your head warm when it’s chilly out.

The Faux Suede Twisted Band Fedora ($49.90 CAD) from Express is a heavy hitter and goes great with anything from dark reds, blues, and greens, to the classic blacks and whites. It’s also fun to experiment with coloured hats, so don’t shy away from the burgundy and navy blue options. Your stylist friend will thank you for it.

A touch of gold – It’s important to put the finishing touches on an outfit by adding some jewellery. I’m all about gold pieces. I rarely leave the house without a necklace or bracelet or a couple of gold rings on.

These additions are a classy and feminine touch you can add to almost any outfit. Stella & Dot’s Rebel Pendant ($84.00 CAD) is my all-time favourite piece of jewellery – I wear it with almost every outfit and my friends love to borrow it whenever I’m not wearing it. The Grace Chandeliers earrings ($49.00 CAD) and the Grace Cuff ($64.00 CAD) that were released earlier this year are also stunning pieces that can be worn together, worn alone, or worn with nothing else.

The best part is that Stella & Dot jewellery comes in beautiful boxes ready for gifting. Win/win.
