2014 – A Year of Radiance

nye

Every December 31st, I take a few minutes to sit and think about all that has happened in the last year and whether I was able to live up to the inspirational theme I chose at the beginning of the year to follow.

2014 was the year I vowed to “Radiate” and that meant trying to be a positive beam of energy that people could rely on to make their day a little better. Looking back on the year, I can only hope that I was able to live up to that. It’s a pretty tall order to expect to feel like sunshine and rainbows every day, but I’ve always felt that it’s incredibly important to bring a little bit of radiance to every moment. Life’s too short to be bogged down by negativity.

Given the chance to look at the year in review now, I’m starting to realize that maybe radiance comes best suited in the form of gratitude – to give thanks in every moment and, conversely, soak in the joys with appreciation as they come. And I think I can safely say that I am so grateful and feel so blessed for everything that has happened this year.

In 2014, I moved to a new ad agency and made a career advancement. I flew to New York and met my idol and my inspiration – Kristen Bell. I traipsed around Paris and London with my dad and brother and discovered my love for travel blogging (yes, I know I’m still behind on posting about the trip). I returned to Chicago and ate and drank to my heart’s content with Erin. I was reunited with Jen in both London and Toronto. I watched my brother graduate from high school. I helped start up an incredible scene study class with Tony and continue to be a producer for Improv Your Acting. I made a new set of friends that believe in me and all that I can accomplish with my craft. I took dance lessons. I saw Lights in concert for the eighth time. I met cast members from The Walking Dead. Hell, I even got a dog and he’s the cutest creature in the world.

If there’s one thing I really wanted out of this year, it’s that everyone I shared these incredible moments and more with felt the same happiness I did, and for them to know how grateful I was and still am that they were a part of it with me. You mean the world to me.

And now, I’m looking forward to the next 365 days and what they might bring. I turn 25 this coming year (which is a pretty big deal, if you ask me) and I’m determined to make it amazing. As for the annual theme to make it all happen? Well, stay tuned to find out tomorrow.

Happy New Year! Thanks for following along with my blog this year. All my love to you.
