Last night, Amanda and I saw Cults play at Lee’s Palace. For two concert junkies who haven’t been to a show in a while, we were absolutely pumped to get out and see them, despite the fact that Mandy was suffering from a headache and I was pretty sure I had a fever.
Listening to Cults is an ethereal experience. Whenever I put on their songs, I’m overcome with a desire to just drop everything, close my eyes, and sway to the music. That was essentially what we did last night while the music pumped out of the speakers like auditory LSD. The band is engaging and they put on a real spectacle. The lighting was well done (check out my Instagram video below – they lit up the stage and crowd with a sparkling galaxy, among several unique patterns and effects) and they played short loops of cool graphics on the TVs behind them (from galactic birds to funky textures). It was simply captivating to watch.
If you’ve never listened to them, check out their new album, Static, or get a taste with their newest music video and let me know what you think!
