The Weekly Round-Up: “Happy” on a Loop, Dancers, and Highly-Anticipated Movies

The Weekly Round-Up w/o November 18th

My obsessions this week have indisputably been all about the entertainment side of things, from dance-your-feet-off music to sit-at-the-edge-of-your-seat-and-grasp-your-armrests-until-your-knuckles-turn-white-from-anticipation movies. There are lots of fun things currently out there and many more on their way. It’s all almost as exciting as the fact that Christmas is only a month away!

In this week’s Weekly Round-Up…

  1. – In the new age of video looping, Pharrell gives us the world’s first 24 hour music video. His new song, “Happy”, is played on repeat while he and various other people lip-sync and dance to the ridiculously upbeat and catchy tune. All 24 hours of content is original and seamless. I especially love the dial to scroll through all of the segments (scroll to 5:35AM for a special visit from a couple of familiar adorable creatures in denim overalls). This song is sure to be stuck in my head for the next few days after listening to it over and over again. Nicely played, as always, Pharrell.
  2. “Stay The Night” by Zedd, featuring Hayley Williams – While the song and video have been out for a few months, it’s really only now beginning to blow up the radio stations in Toronto and I absolutely love it. Zedd has been producing some really electrifying hits, and with Hayley’s vocal talent this song hits it out of the park. Also, have you seen the music video? Holy crap. Not only are the simple sets beautiful (I’ll always be a huge sucker for light installations – one day, I will have one set-up in my home like the one in the video), but the choreographed dance was incredible. Video director Daniel Cloud Campos is the male lead and watching him dance with the girl is absolutely captivating. While watching a behind-the-scenes video, I also learned that the cool lens distortion effect is actually Campos waving lightbulbs in front of the camera while filming. Brilliant. Talk about talent. Watch the video below.
  3. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – Only 18 more days until the release of the second installment of The Hobbit movie trilogy. I am peeing-my-pants excited for this movie, especially since it will feature my all-time favourite Tolkien character, Legolas. Although I’ve seen all three Lord of the Rings movies several times (Return of the King is my all-time favourite movie), it will be great to finally get some fresh new scenes of Orlando Bloom in that elven wig that suits him so well (heehee). From watching all of the trailers, it seems like The Desolation of Smaug will be following in the footsteps of The Two Towers and be a lot more action-packed than the first Hobbit. I’m looking forward to finding out how they will be setting up for the final movie, given that the plot-lines are extensions of the book’s original story.
  4. Divergent – The Divergent book series has been a huge hit in the YA-community from the beginning, especially given the similar foundations in a dystopian universe that The Hunger Games is built upon. As it’s been a major success, naturally it’s been made into a movie. I had been avoiding seeing the trailer (I wasn’t sure I was confident in the casting choices) but it played in the previews prior to Catching Fire yesterday and I was impressed (Maggie Q as Tori is the only rational choice, in my mind). I’m curious to see how Shailene Woodley performs as Tris, especially since she will be playing Hazel in The Fault in Our Stars later in the year. Allegiant, the finale in Veronica Roth’s trilogy, came out last month, though I only just purchased it this week. I can’t wait to read it!

What songs have been stuck in your head lately? And what movies are you looking forward to seeing in the next few months? I’ll be putting together a post of all of the movies coming out in December that I can’t wait to see. It’s going to be a busy month for film-watching!

  1. Bought my midnight showing tickets. I’m so FREAKING stoked. Also I feel like writing blog posts that are generally just about me like you do rather than focusing so much on recipes (which I need to really sit down and write, experiment, etc) will lead to me actually updating my blog, LOL.

    1. Bahaha, it’s a lot easier to write about random, fun things than large posts you need to plan out first! And bah! I haven’t been to a midnight showing in a while, no one to go with and I’m an old lady who is exhausted after work. 😛
