This Sunday has been a good day of resting and relaxation, not only giving me a chance to catch up on sleep and speed through roughly 500 pages of the second compendium of The Walking Dead comics (new episode tonight!), but has also allowed me some time to review all the things I love from the last seven days!
In this week’s Weekly Round-Up…
- Floral Cutout A-Line Dress ($28.90 | Forever 21) – For the second week in a row, Forever 21 makes it on my list of things I can’t stop thinking about. What can I say? They have some seriously irresistible dresses. For this design, the floral pattern differs slightly on each dress, so you can pick one that suits your preference best. Seen below, the print covers mine very thoroughly. I especially love the cut-out in the back on this dress. Pair with black tights and heels for an elegant look.
- Courage Bracelet ($26.00 | Stella & Dot) – From the Stella & Dot Friendship Ties collection comes this beautiful gold plated nylon bracelet with glass beads. Great to wear alone or layered with others. There is currently a promotion to get three bracelets within the series for only $65 – time to start the holiday shopping! Don’t know a Stella & Dot personal stylist? Let me introduce you to my friend, Diana!
- Black Wood Deathly Hallows iPhone Case ($10.76 | Etsy) – Any time I’m reminded of my love for all things Harry Potter (I attended the 2013 Canadian Quidditch Cup yesterday), I go on the hunt for new paraphernalia to add to my already massive collection of magic-themed belongings. While surfing around Etsy, I discovered this amazing case. What I love most is the raised metal symbol for the three hallows – it really adds a unique touch. Although this listing is for an iPhone 4 or 4S, there are sellers who have sizes available for an iPhone 5 or a Samsung phone, and a variety of different colours.
- The Born Friends Family Portrait – This week, Fast Company wrote an article about the latest addition to Skype’s “Stay Together” campaign, a story about how the communication platform brought two best friends, Sarah and Paige, together over the years and finally helped them meet up for the first time after knowing each other for ten years. The video, which you can watch below, is touching and heartfelt, akin to the rest of the video series Skype has put together as part of the campaign. Each talks about how Skype has played an important role in keeping friends and families in touch, regardless of distance, but putting a real focus on the stories themselves, rather than the product. The video speaks to me in a paramount way, because Skype is the reason I’ve been able to stay together with my long-distance friends. Without Skype, I would have never been able to grow close to friends like Erin and Jen, or Nicole and Courtney. While we’ve tried different platforms over the years (MSN video in the early years, Oovoo), Skype has been a constant for us since its inception, and has enabled us to truly be a part of each other’s lives, no matter how far away we are. I’ll never forget all of the crazy group chats, nor all the times we would forget to go to bed and talk until the sun came up. Those memories will last a lifetime. The video also beautifully captures the moment Sarah and Paige finally meet. The emotion you see between them is so real – I have felt all of that, and it is so overwhelmingly powerful. Thanks to Skype, I’ll always be able to stay close to my friends, and I’m forever grateful for that fact.
How do you keep in touch with friends and family who are far away? And have you started your holiday shopping yet? Over the next few weeks, I’ll be posting more about gifts, decorating, and getting ready for Christmas. It’ll be here before we know it!
